My wife and I had dinner at Joe's Place in Coal Valley Illinois on a Wednesday night. The special that night was broasted chicken or spaghetti or a combination of both. My wife had the fish fillet sandwich which was lightly breaded and very tasty. I had the broasted chicken which was marinated and lightly breaded. The chicken was juicy and could not have been cooked lany better or more flavorful. The chicken dinner special came with baked potato or fries and coleslaw, dinner rolls and butter. I had a big baked potato that was the hottest potato I think I have ever had. The service and staff were very good and Joe the owner and head chef was there to check on our dinner. The prices are reasonable and the menu has many options, this place is famous for their prime rib and I can vouch for that also. Well worth the trip from any where. Give Joe and his wife Lori's Place a try.

I have been here twice now. Not terribly impressed. The food the first time was just OK, this time it was downright bad. Oven baked pork chop was "fork tender" but dry as the Sahara. I am also a firm believer in seasoning pork and this chop had nothing. The potatoes were almost as bad. Some burnt, the rest greasy, all tasteless. Green beans from a can and the desert was I think supposed to be some sort of lemon thing but so much frosting I couldn't tell. The second star is for the ice tea and fast friendly service, otherwise it would be one.

You know, this place is surprisingly good! Definitely a local crowd, but professionally staffed, efficiently run, and nice menu options. Yes, it's typical cafe menu, burgers, sandwiches, fried bits for appetizers. But quite good, fresh, and quick service. Great, inexpensive breakfast foods. My only complaint would be the coffee creamer, the powdery stuff, instead of actual cream of any kind. The place is very basic but pleasant. Overall, a great place to stop for a quick, tasty bite. Update: last time I was there, they offered real cream. No complaints about anything else, now I fully enjoy Joe's. :-)

We love Joe's Place...wonderful food esp. Iowa chop and prime rib grilled!!! We have been coming here for many years, every time it's great...on weekend the salad/soup bar is always fresh...what should I get tonight broasted chicken or char-grilled grouper???

I've only been here a couple times, but the first time I went was the first night we moved to town and it was a weekday. It was busy enough that I could tell that they have a loyal following--always a good sign. I ordered something like enchiladas, and it wasn't the most fantastic enchilada ever but it was satisfying and the price was well matched. They advertised that their prime rib (served on Fridays) was the best in the area, so of course we went back for some when a friend came to visit. It cost just as much as you'd expect it to, and it was pretty good (but prime rib, as long as its cooked to the temp you want it is like pizza, it's pretty good no matter what. I really like the place, and I'd go more often if my hubby wasn't such a chain restaurant fan. It's definitely got that townie feel that I love.

Joes Place is as good as it gets for steaks, prime rib, ribs and all of their food is great! Not a dress up place but the people are great too!
